U.S. Department of Justice Uncovers Bank Loan Fraud Case, Suspect Sentenced to 58 Months and Ordered to Pay $8.34 Million
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Dallas resident Kwanghee Anh has been sentenced to 58 months in federal prison for participating in a bank loan fraud scheme and must pay approximately $8.34 million in restitution to affected financial institutions. Anh pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud on March 17 of this year. Prosecutors stated that from January 2014 to March 2016, Anh and his accomplices, while working at Preferred Marketing Group, forged numerous financial documents, including fake IRS W-2 forms, pay stubs, and employment records, exaggerating client incomes and fabricating employment situations to assist clients in submitting false loan applications to lending institutions. Investigations revealed that the fraud ring caused multiple lending institutions, including federally insured financial institutions, to issue at least $10 million in fraudulent loans and credit products, resulting in over $8.3 million in losses for the financial institutions.
