JPYC's Okabe Inquires About Stablecoin Donations for Kumamoto Earthquake Relief to the Financial Services Agency

On July 29, Noritaka Okabe, president of JPYC, which handles the Japanese yen stablecoin "JPYC," revealed on his X account that he had inquired with the Financial Services Agency's Fintech Support Desk about a donation mechanism using stablecoins for relief efforts in the areas affected by the Kumamoto earthquake that occurred on the 28th.
Okabe explained that JPYC would collect donations and provide cash to local governments and other entities, while also maximizing support for donors who wish to redeem their contributions. He noted that this method would not require system modifications and could be initiated the quickest.
