Inactive Bitcoin wallets moved over 800 BTC in August
In August 2026, at least 13 Bitcoin addresses that had been inactive for 12 to over 15 years resumed activity, moving approximately 818 BTC valued at over 60,000,000 dollars at the time of transactions. The largest transfer involved 212 BTC on August 18 from an address unused for nearly 14 years, valued at around 13,660,000 dollars, with an average cost basis of about 12 dollars per coin. On August 22, several old addresses moved an additional 282.31 BTC, including 150 BTC held for 11.7 years and 132.31 BTC received in 2011. On August 29, another address inactive for over 15 years transferred 10 BTC, worth about 777,000 dollars at the time, with an initial value of approximately 15 dollars per coin. Other transfers occurred between August 1-18, ranging from 8.54 to 49.97 BTC from various addresses, with holding periods of 12 to 15 years, realizing profits in the millions for some wallets. According to Galaxy Research, the owner of 40 BTC moved on August 26 after 14 years and two months of inactivity realized a profit of about 3,160,000 dollars, with the coins transferred to an address linked to Boerse Stuttgart Digital.
