Ethereum Plans Quantum-Safe Upgrade by 2029, Hegotá Fork Locks EIP

The Ethereum Foundation's protocol team has released a priority list for the Hegotá upgrade EIPs, aiming to achieve quantum safety by December 2029. The consensus layer's FOCIL (EIP-7805) is classified as an S-level "must launch," enhancing censorship resistance by mandating the inclusion of public mempool transactions. The execution layer's Frame Transactions (EIP-8141) is also marked as "must launch," splitting transactions into programmable "frames" for validation, Gas payment, and execution, laying the groundwork for native account abstraction and custom signatures, as well as Gas payment on behalf of others, while improving post-quantum security readiness. The protocol team stated that starting from the "Glamsterdam" fork in Q4 2026, subsequent forks need to be completed in an average of about 7.2 months to ensure the achievement of the minimum viable post-quantum security milestone before "Q-day" around 2030.
