Bull Bitcoin Sues the French State over DAC8

Bull Bitcoin, a Canadian non-custodial exchange, has decided to take the French State to court to challenge DAC8, a European directive that will require crypto service providers to automatically report the identity, address, and transactions of all their users starting in January 2026. Micael Margiotta, General Manager of Bull Bitcoin, emphasizes that DAC8 represents a significant change in data handling, as previously only data was reported in cases of concrete suspicions or court orders, whereas now everything will be reported without the need for suspicion. Margiotta argues that this jeopardizes user security, citing cases in France where officials sold data to criminal gangs. Bull Bitcoin, which operates in several countries in Latin America and Europe, seeks to have the law repealed or modified, arguing that the State already has sufficient tools to investigate without the need for mass data collection. Other exchanges have expressed interest in supporting Bull Bitcoin in this legal process, which involves significant costs in legal studies. Additionally, Bull Bitcoin does not use Chainalysis, considering it a pseudoscience.
