Visa Cryptocurrency Card Payments Increased 15 Times in 2026
The volume of payments through Visa programs reached over $20 billion in 2026, an increase of more than 15 times compared to 2025. This growth is attributed to the expansion of cryptocurrency-linked cards, with over 160 active programs on the network during the second quarter of 2026 and a nearly 200% year-on-year increase in payment volume. Visa developed a financing mechanism alongside Credit Coop to facilitate daily operations, allowing card issuers to cover their payment obligations before charging end users. The solution includes a renewable line of credit in stablecoins, backed by receivables from settlements, using the Spigot smart contract to automatically manage payment flows. Rain, a Visa member, has financed over $2 billion since August 2023, with more than 2,000 capital turns and 7,000 refunds on the blockchain. The Credit Coop platform has processed over $2.5 billion in loans through 3,000 credit operations. Visa processes nine out of every ten dollars spent globally with cards linked to digital assets.
