President Donald Trump stated his readiness to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the NATO summit in Ankara. However, experts estimate that launching such production could take at least a year or more. Patriot missiles are critically important for Ukraine's air defense, as they are the only weapon capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. This month, Ukraine managed to shoot down only four out of 54 ballistic missiles launched by Russia. Trump did not specify any concrete production agreements and acknowledged that he has not yet spoken with Patriot manufacturers - Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. Experts note that even with a political resolution, starting production will require time to build an assembly facility and organize contractor work. Zelensky emphasized the need to expedite the agreement on details, but production in Ukraine can only begin after the war is over. A batch of PAC-3 interceptors from the U.S. is expected to arrive in the coming days.
