Three Fed Officials Split on Rate Hike Reasons

By: rootdata|2026/07/31 16:06:37

Three Federal Reserve officials voted for a rate hike on Wednesday, resulting in a 9 to 3 split vote. The target range for rates remains at 3.50% to 3.75%. Lorie Logan of Dallas, Neel Kashkari of Minneapolis, and Beth Hammack of Cleveland supported a quarter-point increase, while the majority opted to hold rates steady. Logan argues that inflation is stuck near 2.5%, citing rapid price increases over the past five years and asserting that current rates are not effectively slowing inflation. She believes that without policy restraint, inflation could trend above target. Kashkari's rationale focuses on uncertainty in the economic outlook rather than confirmed inflation issues. Hammack's reasoning was not disclosed at the time. The differing perspectives highlight internal disagreements within the Fed. Following the announcement, the 30-year Treasury yield reached its highest level since 2007. Bitcoin rose after the Fed's decision but later fell to around 62600, down 3.2%. The next Fed meeting is scheduled for September.
