Starting September 1, Magnit and MTS Will Accept Digital Rubles
Starting September 1, the digital ruble will be available to Russian citizens through mobile applications of commercial banks. Sellers with revenue exceeding 120 million rubles for the year 2025 will be required to accept digital rubles. Magnit has already announced its readiness to accept digital rubles in all its stores, including supermarkets and discounters. Payments will be made via a QR code placed on NFC stickers or in the self-service checkout interface. Users of MTS Pay will be able to pay for goods and services with digital rubles in the My MTS app starting September 1. Rostelecom and Megafon are also preparing to accept digital rubles. Marketplaces such as Ozon will provide instructions for businesses on how to work with digital rubles, requiring the opening of a bank account. The purchasing process on Ozon and Wildberries will include selecting the digital ruble at checkout after opening a wallet in the bank's app.
