Sequoia Capital Raises $7 Billion Fund and Expands AI Hardware Investments

Sequoia Capital is raising a new fund of $7 billion and expanding its AI investment scope from software to physical infrastructure, including semiconductors, robotics, and hardware testing. This fund is set to be established in April 2026, with plans to broaden AI investments targeting late-stage companies in the U.S. and Europe. It is double the size of the $3.4 billion fund raised in 2022. Rather than focusing on specific AI companies, this fund aims to invest broadly in growth-stage companies. Sequoia Capital plans to allocate about $10 billion to AI and re-industrialization, although this has not been confirmed through official channels. The starting point of the AI strategy is autonomous agents, with 2026 being viewed as the year of agents. AI infrastructure includes the foundational resources needed to operate AI services, such as data centers, servers, and power. Sequoia Capital has identified hardware testing and data analysis as key challenges in aerospace, defense, robotics, and autonomous systems development in nominally related content. Inference semiconductors have also emerged as a major investment target, and connections with AI model companies are being expanded. In the Korean market, there is a flow of investments into AI data centers, semiconductors, and power infrastructure, with large venture funds moving into related industries. However, there is no indication that Sequoia Capital's expansion of investments is directly linked to the cryptocurrency market.
