Resident foreign currency deposits increased to $128.34 billion at the end of July, marking the highest level since statistics began in June 2012. Dollar deposits surpassed $100 billion for the first time. According to the Bank of Korea, foreign currency deposits rose by $15.01 billion compared to the previous month, with the previous record being $119.43 billion in December 2025. Resident foreign currency deposits include deposits made by nationals, domestic companies, and foreigners residing for more than six months in domestic banks, serving as indicators of domestic dollar demand and corporate foreign currency liquidity. The increase in July was more than 13 times greater than the $1.08 billion increase in June. Dollar deposits amounted to $108.92 billion, an increase of $11.12 billion from the previous month, while euro deposits rose to $8.06 billion and yen deposits to $8.61 billion. Corporate deposits increased to $112.56 billion, up by $13.57 billion from the previous month, and personal deposits rose by $1.57 billion to $14.44 billion. The key point in this statistic is that both dollar deposits and corporate deposits increased simultaneously during a period of declining exchange rates.
