BlockBeats News, February 19th, Hong Kong Legislative Councilor Wu Chi-wai stated in the 78 HOY Information Station's "Finance CHAT" program that in March, Hong Kong will issue the first batch of stablecoin issuer licenses, hoping that the government will promote the use of cryptocurrency among all Hong Kong residents through a stablecoin airdrop.

Wu Chi-wai pointed out that three years ago, the government's distribution of HK$10,000 electronic consumption vouchers significantly promoted electronic payments. He suggested that after stablecoin issuers obtain licenses, the government could airdrop stablecoins to eligible residents for use in local small and medium-sized enterprise consumption (such as dining, entertainment, and theater), in order to enhance Hong Kong's status as a Web3 and digital asset hub, achieving a win-win situation of stimulating the economy and promoting cryptocurrency adoption. Wu Chi-wai emphasized that this move is not simply the government giving away money, but rather using stablecoin consumption vouchers to drive a multiplier effect, with administrative costs borne by the licensed companies.
