Galbot Demonstrates 100 Autonomous Tennis Rallies in Beijing
Galbot showcased a sequence of over 100 autonomous tennis rallies in Beijing, conducted without human control, during the opening of the WHRG. This marks the first fully autonomous humanoid robot tennis match, representing a technological milestone for AstraTennis. The rally sequence set a record for humanoid robot tennis and was broadcast live. The humanoid robot Galbot was trained using approximately 5 hours of amateur player motion data, utilizing software called LATENT, which breaks down tennis movements into reusable small actions that are then recombined on the court. The robot interprets incoming balls during rallies and makes decisions between forehand, backhand, serving, receiving, or saving shots. Galbot also demonstrated doubles matches against human champions, adjusting its positioning and strategy accordingly. The physical platform used is the G1, standing 173 cm tall, weighing 85 kg, with a wingspan of 190 cm and a reach of up to 240 cm, integrated with visual and tactile sensors to track the ball's speed, spin, and trajectory. This event brought together 666 teams from 16 countries, totaling 2056 machines. Galbot referred to this achievement as a new milestone in humanoid robot tennis, linking it with EmbodiedAI and HumanoidRobots.
