EU Allocates 1 Billion Euros to Ukraine for Drones under Drone Deal Initiative

By: rootdata|2026/07/15 16:32:46

The European Commission has allocated 1 billion euros to Ukraine for the purchase of drones as part of a credit program totaling 90 billion euros. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that this financial support package ensures financial stability and predictability. Within this package, 4 billion euros are already earmarked for drones. The new funds represent the second payment within the first tranche of 6 billion euros. Previously, 3.2 billion euros in macro-financial assistance and 3.9 billion euros for drone purchases had been transferred. A new defense-industrial partnership will regulate the joint production of UAVs until the end of 2026, with an expansion to missile defense systems by 2028. In Kyiv, Zelensky met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, where they signed a document that marks the first step towards the Drone Deal. The Commission will collaborate with Ukrainian partners and the European drone community to hold the first meeting of the 18 founding members of the DroneDeal initiative in Brussels in September. Simultaneously, the BraveTechEU initiative will be developed, selecting six companies to test defense technologies on the battlefield.
