On August 18, the benchmark index for emerging market stocks ended a four-day streak of gains, with the MSCI Emerging Markets Index dropping 0.7%, influenced by declines in Samsung Electronics and TSMC stock prices. The emerging market currency index fell 0.1%, marking the first strengthening of the dollar in four days. A global bond sell-off and rising oil prices have put pressure on market risk sentiment. Chris Turner, global markets director at ING, stated that large-scale sell-offs in the U.S. long bond market are typically detrimental to emerging market currencies and overall risk.
